Wonderful Thanksgiving with My Mom!

Well I had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my mom and sister in Mobile, AL with turkey, dressing, macaroni and cheese, and all the fixings--AND NO CHITTERLINGS!!!! My sister Maryland and my mom had a very nice dinner and watched the Atlanta Falcons beat the Detroit Lions. All in all, we had a very good time!

This was well worst the 5 hour drive home!

Also, my mom bought a new car! She bought a 2005 PT Cruiser Limited on Saturday, November 26, 2005. Below is a picture of her new car:

MIS/M Degree Put On Hold

Thanks to the lack of a budget and continued operations under a continuing resolution, I have been instructed to reschedule my next class at the University of Phoenix Online (UOP) from 11/15/2005 to 1/10/2006. Even though I’m half way through (6 or 13 courses) my Master’s degree program, I think I will welcome the break from classes because I’ve been going straight through since the end of January. I think I need a break! Hopefully, I can pick back up in January 2006.

I really hated to say goodbye to my classmates, whom I’ve been with since my second class at UOP. Mitchell and David, I will miss you guys.

Home For Thanksgiving

Hopefully, I will be home in Mobile, AL for Thanksgiving this year! If my boss will let me off from work on November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving, I will be able to stay for the weekend. Please keep your fingers crossed!

Mom Ruins Thanksgiving!

Well my own mother has potentially ruined one of biggest holidays in my life--Thanksgiving! It all started with a phone call a couple of weeks ago that informed me that my mother along with my oldest sister would be visiting for Thanksgiving. Wow! But then, my wife informed me that her mother was planning a visit during that same week. On top of that, my wife's relatives here in Atlanta suggested a needed change of venue and that's right, they chose my house to host their Thanksgiving feast.

Okay, so maybe I'm over reacting but these people eat chitterlings on Thanksgiving! I mean we as Americans only have two truly American holidays--Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July! Who in their right mind would mess up Thanksgiving by eating chitterlings next to the turkey and dressing with all the trimmings? And now with my mom bailing on me at the last minute sort of speak, I'm destined for another haphazard Thanksgiving mishap that may even rival the infamous "Turkey Leg" incident that occurred several years ago in Mobile during Thanksgiving!

Oh the shame, the pain, the agony!

I Got A Perfect Score!

Dear Journal:

You won’t believe this but I got a perfect 100 in my Programming Concepts class at the University of Phoenix (UOP). This is my fifth class at UOP and my first perfect score of 100, although I do have 4 “A” grades to go along with my perfect score in CSS/561.

I passed another one so now I can look forward to my next class which is CMGT/555--Systems Analysis and Development.

Final Day of the OIG IT Conference

This was the day we played dress-up for the IG and Deputy IG. Everyone was in coat and tie or business professional attire to impress the Executives.

Then we had an unimpressive massive lunch in the hotel restaurant with no real selection or choice for lunch. That was $12 well spent! After lunch came the 3 hours of team bonding! This was really. . . . I guess I won't say that on the web but you can feel my pain! We had consultants come in a take us to "Spy School" for the afternoon where everyone became secret agents.

I guess I should be thankful for OIG/OEO caring enough to provide me with this "valuable" training! Thanks!

Day 2 of the OIG IT Conference

This is another boring conference but Gerald gave a very interesting talk on the ECT of OI and the necessity for OIG IT staff assistance. Glen Howard is against the use Glen Howard for ECT purposes. I will work on him.

See you on Day 3! The Final Day of the OIG IT Conference.

Opening Day of the OIG IT Conference in Baltimore

Well here I am again for another IT Conference. Today started with a game of Jeopardy geared toward OIG IT accomplishments this year. You know, one of those team-bonding group activities that everyone seemed to enjoy, yeah right! I can't wait until 3pm -- the next break! And then 5pm for the end of Day 1!

See you tomorrow for Day 2!

I Passed!

Great news! I was able to pull out an "A" from my Accounting and Finance for Managerial Decision Making (MM/520) class at the University of Phoenix Online!

Now we get on to the meat and potatoes of the MIS/M degree! The computer classes, starting with Programming Concepts (CSS/561).

Four of A Kind!

So far, so good!  I was able to pull yet another "A" in my graduate class at the University of Phoenix Online.  The class was course number MM/520 -- Accounting and Finance for Managerial Decision Making.  Since I have an undergradute degree in Accounting, it would have been highly upsetting if I had made less than an "A" in this class.  Now on to CSS/561 -- Programming Concepts!!!  Wish me luck, I'll probably need it!

Tahitian Noni Launch Party

We had our first Tahitian Noni launch party on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 7:30 pm. Everything went off without a hitch. Some people didn't show up, but all in all we had a decent showing!

Noni juice is the wave of the future! It has done wonders for my health by lowering my blood sugar readings and my blood pressure. It has also increased my wife's energy levels. It works!

Apple Powerbook G4

I know, I know!  I am a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and I have switched to the Apple Powerbook G4 running Mac OS X Tiger.  I know what you are thinking and believe me I had those same thoughts!  But the Mac is sooo much more intuitive with what you want to accomplish on a computer.  The integration of iLife '05 components along with other enhanced features of Tiger make this a wonderful machine.  And with my iPod Photo 60GB, I am Macking all over the place!  Unfortunately, I still have one foot in the PC world because I work for the government and they are allied with the Evil Empire in Redmond, WA.  So may the force be you and the light side prevail as the Jedi return to conquer the Sith.

Another Class is Finished!

Well this has been some final week of class at University of Phoenix! My final week of Human Relations and Organizational Behavior, ORG/502, was hectic to say the least. First, my computer's motherboard failed on Saturday while typing one of the two papers due this week. This caused me to essentially buy a new computer. Then I had to re-create my files, re-install software, and basically try to get the new computer usable for class. With one paper due Tuesday and the other Wednesday, I was really against the wall. I managed to finish my individual paper late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning and thanks to my Learning Team in class, our Team assignment was also finished and posted late Wednesday night!

This has been one hell of a week! Now it's on to Legal Environment of Business, LAW/529, as the next class! Wish me luck!

COMPUTER CRASH!!

You would not believe what happened to me this weekend while typing one of my many class papers due this week and watching the NFL Draft.  My computer crashed!!!  The capacitors on the motherboard went out and caused the hard drives to fail.  I thought that I had lost everything, including the paper that I was working on and all the research!  I ended up getting a new computer on the inside--motherboard, RAM, CPU, and new hard drive.  I also got a DVD burner.  It took all weekend and most of Monday but I am finally getting back to normal.  Having to re-install all of my software is a pain but at least I didn't lose my data!!!  Also, for anyone out there using Norton Anti-virus 2005, which I just purchased last week and installed on my computer prior to the crash, stop using it at once.  My hard drive was full of viruses!!!  Previous versions of Norton are O.K. or if you install 2005 version on a clean computer but an upgrade to 2005 will be deadly, I know!  Use Norton 2005 at your own risk!!

Week 5 Paper Done!

The Leadership in Action paper which started as a memo and then was rearrange at the Professor's urging into an APA-style paper was finally posted lastnight around 11:30pm.  Now on to Week 6 and two more papers--one individual paper and one team paper assignment.  I can't wait for this class to be over.

Graduate Degree Program!

I just started a Graduate degree program at the University of Phoenix online. I am pursuing a Master of Information Systems/Management degree. The entire program is online and my first class, Managerial Communications and Ethics, is wonderful so far. I'm enjoying the homework and the reading. This is great! I will keep you posted on my progress to a post-graduate degree.
